The site of the Bigg’s Willow Creek Lumber Mill was one of the biggest sawmills in the area. The mill, as shown in the photo above, was typical for the time. Great teams of oxen would haul logs in to be processed through the steam mill. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad would then haul out the products for its own use for the booming mining camps in the mountains. The old grade is still visible to the North. Willow Creek became a part of the Jicarilla Reservation in the 1880's after the railroad went through.
